The Irish Mirror is reporting that Gardaí believe a gangland threat level in the capital is at its highest and have called in armed units for support.
They believe that a hit could happen at anytime in the county and it is feared that a shooting might be days away.
A source told the publication that:
“The unarmed model of community policing is critical to get information on the group and there are very proactive uniformed gardai doing great work targeting criminals as they are on patrol.
“But the problem is that the criminals who are involved in this feud think nothing of attacking unarmed people and the fear is that they could turn on a uniformed garda if they stop a car.”
They also went on to add that there is a list of people who are being monitored by Gardaí and stopping these people has been described as "critical".
“There is a list of people who gardai need to monitor so that when one of those cars is spotted there is intelligence generated about where they were and who was with them.
“Stopping those cars is critical to building up the intelligence picture of who is moving around and who is on board.
“These intelligence entries are of critical importance and have been instrumental in solving murders in the past.”
