Straight Blast Gym Ireland has confirmed plans to open a new location in Inchicore at the end of September.
The state-of-the-art gym, run by Head Coach John Kavanagh, is around 16,500 square feet and will contain seven training areas. It’s also the only gym in Ireland kitted out with a full-size octagon for competitive and aspiring MMA fighters to train in.
There will be a wide range of MMA and fitness classes on offer as well as a private training room especially for one-on-one sessions with the coaches.

As Ireland’s first-ever Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt, Coach Kavanagh is a big pioneer of Irish MMA.
Other amenities include a strength and conditioning area, a communal sauna and even soundproof private training room for the Vikingabrek sessions. The latter of which is an Icelandic training method that uses a mix of kettlebells, combat and bodyweight exercises.

SBG is hosting an open day this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m to celebrate and give people a chance to check out the new gym. There will be various classes running throughout the day and Royce Gracie will host a charity ladies’ self-defence class. Any money raised will be matched by Bellator, one of the world’s largest fight promotions, and donated to the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre.
According to Kavanagh, “it’s been incredible to see SBG grow from its humble beginnings to what it is now.”
We look forward to working up a sweat here soon.
