For some of you jammy humans, you're at the very beginning of a delicious four day weekend.
Don't worry if hibernating and eating a ton of chocolate sounds a bit too boring - we've picked some of the best live gigs, daytime events, DJ sets and nights out happening around town over the next few days so that you can take your pick....
The folks behind Hunt & Gather are celebrating the change in the season, from darkness to light, by transforming a secret southside city centre location into a cultural playground and creative haven for fellow-minded souls for an all-day event, before moving to another location for a sneaky after party. They will also be bringing back “the Great Exchange” - an indoor market that will showcase the works and wares of some of Ireland most inspiring fashion designers, graphic designers, artists and small business’ – make sure you don’t leave empty handed. Prepare for witchcraft, mysticism and as always, a few tricks up Hunt & Gather's sleeves.
Sure what else would you be doing on Good Friday with all pubs and clubs locked up for the day other than raving down in Glendalough? Formerly known as Barn Dance, it's a BYOB music and arts festival with a host of international acts in the house, techno and electronica scene, as well as plenty of artisan food stalls, art installations, comedy and theatre. Be sure to catch Omar S and Jay Daniel's sets if you make it down!
Fancy doing something different this weekend? How about partaking in some body painting… Dublin Body Painting are looking for people to come together fortheir 6th jam and participate either as models or artists in this fun, day-long event. Photos will be taken of the completed artworks, but don’t worry you don’t have to get fully naked – bare as much as you care to share!
Johnathan Demme’s now legendary documentary was filmed over three days as Talking Heads performed at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. It captures the explosive energy of their performances in a ground-breaking film that will make you want to get up on your feet and dance around The Lighthouse, and we feel that would probably be ok! It's the perfect alternative to a boozy Saturday night, if you don't want to be hanging when you go see your family on Easter Sunday.
Abstract host this amazing three piece live band from San Francisco on Saturday night. PillowTalk are insanely talented musicians who manipulate pop melodies, classic R&B, soul and boogie into the loose rhythms of house music and perform live on stages in nightclub settings across the world. Not quite live musicians, DJs nor producers but a combination of all three; the audience at Opium Rooms are in for a treat tomorrow night.
This Easter Sunday, The Locals and Discotekken screen Atom Films' documentary The Irish Pub in the Sugar Club. The film will be followed by a Banter panel discussion about the state of the Irish Pub, and a live musical performance by critically acclaimed Ensemble Ériu. The panel will include Tony McMahon, owner of the legendary Johnnie Foxes pub and Seáneen Sullivan of Stoneybatter’s staple watering hole, L Mulligan Grocer, discussing the state of the Irish pub scene and its future. Sure what better way to spend your Easter Sunday than celebrating the good ol’ Irish pub.
One half of the amazing electronic Swedish duo, Genius of Time, Alexander Berg will be bringing their brand of experimental house music to District 8 on Sunday night. You probably know them best for their sampling of Whitney Houston's ‘Houston we have a problem’ or their 2013 remix of First Choice’s ‘Love Thang’. While they were supposed to be playing live, Nils Krogh (the second half of the duo) has fallen ill, so we'll have to make do with a DJ set from Alex. Not to worry though, his extensive record collection will be sure to keep the dancefloor grooving all night long. Jeremy Underground will also be playing on the night, so if you're looking for a belter of an evening (Monday is a Bank Holiday after all) this is just the ticket.
