Homelessness is a massive issue both in Dublin and nationwide at the moment, so when we heard about this innovative campaign organised by two students from DCU we were seriously intrigued.. Claragh Fitzsimons and David Bell came up with the #MySleepout campaign as a way to raise funds for Focus Ireland.
When I asked David about the inspiration for the campaign he told me "the idea is to engage with the daily search for a bed that goes on for most homeless people. We're asking people not to sleep in a bed for a night - just to get an idea of how homeless people have to cope, day in day out. Not being allowed to sleep in your own bed is a big enough inconvenience in itself, but it's only a tiny step towards beginning to understand the plight of the homeless."
To participate in the campaign, all you need to do are follow the four simple steps detailed below:
Creativity is encouraged, and they're really looking forward to how many strange locations people can come up with for their #MySleepout. Homelessness isn't fun - at any given time there are 5,000 people in Ireland, with 1 in 7 of them being a child. Both Claragh and David are hoping to make an engaging campaign to create awareness about the plight of the homelessness, and to help raise funds for one of the top homelessness charities in the country.
